MARQUETTE -- Wednesday was World Down Syndrome Day, and the Upper Peninsula Down Syndrome Association celebrated with friends across the U.P.
The group is a support organization that helps families across the U.P. connect with other families that have children or adults with Down Syndrome.
The celebration is only one of many annual events that helps raise money and support for the group and its members.
"Tonight it's really a celebration; it's about fun, it's about getting together. We have individuals who've come from across the Upper Peninsula to join us here today, and really we have a big cake and we have music and a clown. It's just really to have fun today and to connect," said UPDSA Co-Founder, Cathy Dehlin.
Families and friends celebrated with refreshments, musical therapy and face painting.
Down Syndrome affects about 400,000 in the United States. The UPDSA group meets on the second Saturday of each month at the Peter White Public Library.
