Businesses, ranging from sales to Armed Forces, were on hand recruiting new team members
MARQUETTE -- College students from all over the U.P. were on the prowl for jobs Wednesday at Northern Michigan University's 22nd annual job fair.
At this year's fair, there were 57 businesses compared to last year's 43. And the student's took advantage of it.
"It's easier that they come to us because they're all in one location. You don't have to go to USA Jobs, you're not searching. It's more personal. You can actually get to know the person doing it and get references from them. So it gives you better opportunities to get a job rather than being online when you just put a resume out there and you don't know who you're talking to," said NMU student, Jordan Neal.
And the students weren't the only ones doing the searching. Businesses, ranging from sales to Armed Forces, were on hand recruiting new team members.
Kohl's Department Store from Milwaukee was there, and they say they hire two to three new employees from each job fair.
"It's important to get the young talent coming out of college. To be able to reach those people that are maybe not exactly sure what they're looking for, but we're able to educate them on what our field is and what we do, and then find those individuals that are a good fit for the organization," said Kohl's employee Nick Hund.
Not all of the companies were looking for full-time employees either. Many of the businesses also have internships, summer jobs, and part-time jobs that need to be filled.
A lot of the businesses have come to NMU for past job fairs, and a couple of them are even staying the next couple days in Marquette to host interviews.
