MARQUETTE -- The Department of Natural Resources is seeking public input on new proposals that would affect fishing here in the Upper Peninsula.

Several new regulations affecting brook trout, muskie and pike have been proposed by a variety of interest groups, and the DNR wants to know what the public thinks.

Meetings will be held all across the U.P. in the coming weeks, and even if you are unable to attend, the DNR has arranged surveys online for those interested.

"This is going to be an ongoing process," said Debbie Munson-Badini of the DNR.  "First we'll have these informational meetings; people are really encouraged to come learn the ins and outs of the different proposals, give their public comment, and the whole process will take at least a year, and in 2013 we'll see if any changes are enacted."

The earliest meeting will be held on March 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Bay College in Escanaba, and a complete list of the meetings can be found on the DNR website.
