SANDS TWP -- A new addition could be making its way to the Blueberry Ridge Trailhead in Sands Township: a heated hut. That's what the Sands Township board is looking to build in the parking lot of the trail. They're in the process of applying for grants from the DNR and are also looking for financial support from the community.

The entire project will cost about $170,000 and will include in-floor heating, picnic tables, and changing rooms.

"I think it's a good form of recreation that happens to be located in our township. It's very popular and popular with a lot of people from out of our township, and considering the way society is looking more and more at quality of life, and exercise and fitness, I think it's a perfect fit," said David Kallio, supervisor for Sands Township.

They plan to model the hut off the one at Valley Spur trails in Munising.
