NEGAUNEE -- The search for a new city attorney in Negaunee has ended. Thursday night, the city council selected Bruce Houghton to fill the position. After interviewing three candidates for the position, the council voted five to one to appoint Houghton as the city attorney. The council thanked all who applied and felt that all applicants had their strengths and weaknesses.
"We certainly feel he'll be an asset, and we're looking forward to having him in our council meetings and working with our city staff and manager," said Negaunee Mayor Michael Haines.
Although the search for a city attorney has ended, the council is looking to fill a vacancy among their ranks. The council is asking for letters from Negaunee residents who are interested in being appointed to the city council. The term would last until November, and they hope to fill the vacancy within one month.
