MARQUETTE -- Registration for kindergarten is fast approaching, and this year there are some big changes.

Schools will now move to an all day kindergarten program that will see children in the classroom longer than in previous years.

In order to receive full funding for students, schools are now required to offer all day kindergarten.

"It's going to be an all day program, so it will be a little bit different. The beauty of it is that it's going to be consistent; it will be five days a week as opposed to two and a half," said Superior Hills Principal, Mike Woodard.  "To prepare them, I don't know if we prepare them much different. I'd read to them, talk about letters and things like that, just get them ready.  Socialization is as big a part as anything; some time away from mom and dad might help, too."

Registration dates for Superior Hills Elementary are March 12 and 13 at the school.

Parents need to bring a birth certificate with them; the shot records can be looked up online.
