ESCANABA -- A 40-year-old Escanaba man was sentenced to 18 months probation as a result of two charges from a six hour police standoff in Escanaba on January 26.

The standoff occurred when he was out on bond.

Michael Phelan is charged with domestic violence, first offense, and another charge of probation violation.  He pled guilty to both charges in Delta County District Court.

The original domestic violence incident against Phelan's girlfriend took place on January 10.

"When I unloaded the gun, I had one of the bullets and I think I tapped her in the head with it," said Phelan.

"So, you bringing these guns down put her in fear of it a little bit," asked Judge Glenn Pearson.

"She just doesn't like guns.  She's not used to them," Phelan responded.

Phelan was released from jail Monday afternoon and will be placed on the alcohol tether for 46 days.
