MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Saturday's winter storm wreaked havok across much of the Upper Peninsula.
Heavy wet snow has been falling since late Friday night.
All of Upper Michigan has seen at least a few inches of fresh accumulation, but the central and eastern counties have been hit the hardest.
Residents could be seen everywhere shoveling and snow blowing. Some could even be seen knocking snow off of their roofs.
Heavy snowfall and strong winds have brought most traffic nearly to a crawl on US 41, with visibility very low at times.
Ishpeming has been slammed with snow according to snowfall reports. Plows were working hard to clear streets and parking lots.
Only a few miles west of Ishpeming, however, conditions were generally much calmer.
The heavy snow has canceled many events Saturday, but some took advantage and spent the day on their snowmobiles.
"I know it's been a bad winter as far as snowmobilers go, but now we're in heaven since it is snowing," said Hank Armbrecht, a snowmobiler.
In Marquette, the 2012 Kaleidoscope event at the Superior Dome was canceled, much to the disappointment of kids and families.
An exact date has not been set for rescheduling, but it is tentatively planned for May.
