MARQUETTE -- The Messiah Lutheran Church celebrated world day of prayer Friday afternoon. The service was hosted by the Church Women United in Marquette.

Their theme for this year's celebration is "let justice prevail," and they invited anyone to come to the service.

Those who attended made donations to the world day of prayer organization.

"We concentrate on things that make the world better for the people living in it," said Miriam Hilton of the Church Woman United organization. "Human trade particularly or exchange, things that we can do to keep people around the world make their lives better as united church women."

A Norther Michigan University student who spent time in Sri Lanka while working on her masters degree spoke to the group about her experiences.

They'll celebrate again in May for Friendship Day.
