GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- A prison inmate has been charged with falsely reporting plots to bomb the federal courthouse in Grand Rapids and the Palisades nuclear plant in southwestern Michigan.

Anthony Fortuna was transported from a prison in Ionia this week for his first court appearance. He's accused of telling the FBI in 2010 that he was offered $5,000 to carry out the plot at the courthouse by someone who was being prosecuted by the government.

The government says Fortuna also reported a plan to attack a nuclear plant. The indictment says both claims were false. He was not in prison at the time.

Fortuna could be released from prison on March 22. He's there for larceny and financial crimes in Isabella and Ottawa counties.  A message seeking comment was left for his lawyer.
