Valley Spur hosted the 2012 Snowman Winter duathlon Saturday morning

MUNISING -- Skiers enjoyed a light-hearted race to raise money at Valley Spur in Munising Saturday.

Valley Spur hosted the 2012 Snowman Winter duathlon Saturday morning. Racers competed in an 8K classic cross country ski race, immediately followed by a 3K snowshoe race. Twenty-two men and women registered to race either as individuals or as a paired team.

With recent snowfall, the track has been in excellent condition.

"We are so excited because of the weather. Look at this, we got snow. It's about 24 degrees, I think. That's great gliding weather for skiers, and the trees are beautiful. When we go through our snowshoe area, it is gorgeous," said Peggy Carberry, Friends of Valley Spur secretary.

All proceeds help fund the Friends of Valley Spur youth program. On Sunday, they will host a mini snowman race for their youth program.
