ESCANABA -- Delta County Sheriff, Gary Ballweg, has announced his reelection bid.  He's asking Delta County voters for a third term of office.

He was elected in 2004 and reelected in 2008.  No one has come forward to run against him yet.

The sheriff's department operates on a 3.5 million dollar budget.

Ballweg said it'll be tough nationally and federally to get funding to provide extra programs.

"We're going to be receiving less income through taxes to run the sheriff's department and our road patrols," said Ballweg. "It's important to know how to operate within the budget and use those budgets less.  I think I'm the one who's going to be able to have the experience to go forth even with less dollars."

The primary election will be in August, and the general election is in November.
