MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The push for a controversial truck route continues with a key meeting planned on Tuesday.

County Road 595 would be a 22-mile long road that could serve as a major trucking route for the nearly 80 trucks a day heading to and from Rio Tinto Kennecott Eagle Mine site.

Although the EPA and local environmentalists oppose the road, there are those who think County Road 595 would be a safer route for everyone.

"We, as Humboldt Township, we are in favor of County Road 595; one, because of the safety issue, moving those trucks out of the City of Marquette as well as not adding any additional traffic on the Marquette Township corridor will be a big plus," said Humboldt Township Supervisor Joe DeRocha.

The Department of Environmental Quality will be holding a public meeting in which they hope to convey their concerns.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Country Village Banquet and Conference Center in Ishpeming.
