All 164 soldiers of the 1430th Engineer Company safely made it home after a year-long deployment

NEGAUNEE -- All 164 soldiers of the 1430th Engineer Company safely made it home after a year-long deployment.

They were honored Saturday morning with a Freedom Salute to recognize a successful deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The ceremony honors the families, employers, and "centers of influence" for each guard member.

It is a relief to have the soldiers safely at home with their families and loved ones, leaders said.

"I can finally take a breath," said Capt. Jason Rolling. "It's been a two- to three-year process to get to this point; to make everybody be able to see their families again, that's huge...a good feeling."

The company conducted more than 200 engineer tasks during their tour of duty.
