Saturday wrapped up a weekend of the Ron Carlson Marquette International Open hosted by the Marquette Figure Skating Club
MARQUETTE -- Young figure skaters were on the ice again Saturday at the Lakeview Arena in Marquette.
Saturday wrapped up a weekend of the Ron Carlson Marquette International Open hosted by the Marquette Figure Skating Club. More than 130 skaters competed in several different divisions. Ages ranged from 4 to 17 years old, and the skaters come from across the U.P. and other states.
Saturday's event featured the freestyle and basic skills show.
"This is a non-qualifying event," said Maddy Kochevar, president of the club. "It's a smaller competition and so it's supposed to be more of a fun thing, and for a lot of them, it's their first experience competing. So for a lot of them, it's the first time they get to wear a skating dress and get their hair done."
This is the 33rd annual Ron Carlson Open.
