ALGER CO. -- People ate chili for a cause Sunday.

The annual Alger County Animal Shelter Chili Fest was held at the American Legion Hall in Munising. Volunteers made and served chili in exchange for donations. For more than 10 years, the chili fest has been the animal shelter's biggest fundraiser.

The animal shelter has many pets available. They rarely euthanize and will even take pets from other high kill shelters.

"We have large vet bills, of course, because all of our animals come vetted. We're very big on spay and neuter, so we like to make sure that every animal goes out already spayed and neutered, of course, there's shots, too," said Kathy Glish, manager of the shelter.

There was also a silent auction and many raffle prizes. The chili fest raises about $3,000 each year.
