The organization raised around $13,000; $5,000 of it will go to support Special Olympics in the area

MARQUETTE -- A softball tournament raising funds for Special Olympics wrapped up Sunday at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

The event attracted 22 teams from the U.P., Wisconsin and the Lower Peninsula. Over the weekend, the teams competed for cash prizes. The organization raised around $13,000 and $5,000 of it will go to support Special Olympics in the area.

"It's been a really good tournament. Quite a few people, different faces coming and going throughout the weekend raising as much money as possible in a really short period of time, and just helping them as a fundraiser so they can put on events for all of the special needs in marquette," Candace Sequin, tournament director, said.
