IRON MT. -- Michael Wellnitz, 18, of Iron Mountain has been diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare, aggressive cancer that victimizes young adults. Friends of Michael's family have organized a benefit to help the parents pay for trips back and forth to Milwaukee, where Michael is staying at the Children's Hospital.

The benefit will be held on Saturday at North Stables Pub in Iron Mountain. For sixdollars, you can get dinner and listen to live music. All the proceeds go to Michael's family.

"He's a friend of my son's, and they grew up together and they've been hanging out forever since they've been six and seven years old. We've gone camping and fishing and a bunch of family activities that we've done together with the family," said Lisa Riley-Conery, event organizer.

Members of Michael's family said they're grateful for all the help they've received so far.
