Ishpeming and Negaunee are being showcased in the PBS TV show "Under The Radar"
Two U.P. towns are being highlighted on a PBS TV show, and the crew is here from Detroit this week to capture it all.
Under The Radar Michigan aims to feature unique towns and people in the state, and for this episode, they decided to come all the way to Negaunee and Ishpeming.
The episode will be featuring Midtown Bakery, sampling all their homemade goodies.
Coming to the U.P. was an easy decision for the show's creators.
"The second you cross the bridge, you can feel the difference up here...I can't even put it into words. It's indescribable. There's something different about the terrain, people, and the climate. We just love it up here," said show creator Tom Daldin.
The show creators posted on their Facebook page that they will be in the U.P. this week, and within minutes, they got tons of responses suggesting places to go.
"Our Facebook page is a tremendous resource. We have thousands of Facebook fans. When we're going to go someplace like Ishpeming or Negaunee, we'll say, 'We're going to go to Negaunee, where's a great place to eat?' And we'll get hundreds of responses from people," Daldin says.
The show's positive energy matches the direction that the west end is headed in.
"I think we're in a place where we're trying to find our identity, and where we're going to go from here, but there's this incredible energy in the community, and in the west end, and it's just a perfect fit to be featured on a show that carries that and will only help us build what we're doing here," says Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Elizabeth Peterson.
They'll be filming the Ishpeming Ski Jump Tournament Wednesday, and they have some "surprises" in store for what else they'll feature.
The episode will be airing sometime in June. To watch past episodes, click here.
