ISHPEMING -- Children were "Freezin' for Reasons" Saturday.

Freezin' for Reasons had about 25 young participants that spent time in cardboard boxes outside of the Church of Saint Joseph in Ishpeming.

The purpose was to raise awareness of those in need this winter season.

Money was collected from people passing by the event and from pledges beforehand. Funds raised go to help the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.

Saint Vincent de Paul helps local residents in financial trouble pay their bills or buy food. Money collected Saturday will go to their heat assistance efforts.

This was the first Freezin for Reasons.

"I would like this to grow into where a group in Negaunee is doing it, a group in Marquette is doing it also, and so we can all help the different St. Vincent's in the area," said event organizer, Peter Longtine.

The kids were able to warm up inside every hour.
