CALUMET -- The CopperDog 150 is a three day sled dog race that starts in downtown Calumet.

There are thousands of people expected to attend the sled dog race and the event will also offer other entertainment like live music and fireworks.

Even though the race is a month away, organizers say they need volunteers.

"Right now we have about 450 volunteer shifts that we need to fill over the weekend," said Race Director Todd Brassard.  "Of course some people will take multiple shifts but we're probably still looking at 300 people that we need over the course of three days to make this event happen."

Some of the volunteer jobs available are dog handling and helping mushers get through road crossings safely.

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer, this Saturday River Valley Bank in Calumet is hosting a volunteer drive and there will also be a meet and greet with some of the dogs participating in the race.
