MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Charter Commission met Wednesday to hear ideas from the public.
The commission is holding open meetings to hear suggestions for the updated charter. The current charter is over 60 years old and contains chapters that are out-of-date.
The commission chair says there are over 70 regulations that are no longer relevant.
"There will be ample time for people to comment; to review what's being done. And we hope they can have a feeling of ownership by the time they get a chance to vote on the new document," said Commission Chair, Robert Kulishek.
The meetings will take place every other week, and the commission members are hoping to have a draft charter completed by this spring.
The commission has three years to complete the new version of the charter, but they're trying to finish it in one.
