MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University students are learning how to improve the lines of communication through social media. The program centered around increasing interaction for student group Facebook pages.

Interns from Communications and Marketing showed students how to tag NMU and other Northern pages to increase the awareness of student groups on campus.

"I think the next step for Facebook is using it as an entire community, that means we're going to have different department campuses posting about each other, cross tagging each other and making it more of a network than a one-way flow of communication," said communications intern, Brian Price.

Other topics discussed were Facebook etiquette and how to promote events and contests.

The skill builder programs are part of the center for student enrichment series aimed at developing leadership skills in students.
