QUINNESEC -- Tommy Taff, a teen in Quinnesec, has spent a good chunk of his life restoring a car so he'd have something fun to drive when he turned 16.
“At first when I got it, I didn't realize how much work would actually go into it,” said Taff.
Tommy and his dad finished the car last April, a project that evolved from dad doing most of the work to Tommy taking over the reigns.
“Over the last couple of years, it just seemed that all of a sudden Tom was out here doing all the work, and then he'd ask me for help once in a while,” said Paul Taff, Tommy’s father.
Even though Tommy couldn't do a lot of the work when he was younger, he was always watching.
“Every single thing that we did to it, he wanted to be right there,” the elder Taff said.
This car is especially close to Tommy because it's the same car that his favorite TV heroes drove. Those of you that remember the Dukes of Hazard will remember the General Lee. Tommy's car is the same car, a '69 Dodge Charger.
And what a car it is. Tommy and his father's hard work have earned them first place at four different car shows. It was even featured in Mopar, a hot rod magazine.
For Tommy and his dad, this will be a project they'll remember forever. And for him, that's the most important thing.
“My whole family has been with me the whole way,” Tommy says. “Helped out a bunch.”
