MARQUETTE -- The Marquette City Commissioners had an unusually large number of appointments and reappointments to city boards and committees Monday night.

The commission also viewed a presentation of the Board of Zoning Appeals and approved repairs to the Mattson Park sanitary sewer lift station.

With the large number of appointments and reappointments, the commission was pleased that members of the community are willing to take leadership roles.

"Twenty-one people willing to stand up at one meeting and say we'll help out, that means a lot to this community and almost every board; it seems like we've got new people, and those will help significantly so, again, a wholehearted thank you," said Marquette Mayor, John Kivela.

Prior to the regular meeting, a special work session was held regarding the review of the city charter. Several ideas were discussed including term lengths and official job descriptions for commission members.

Two meetings are scheduled for Wednesday to further discuss the city's charter. The public is encouraged to attend.
