Winners of the local hoop shoots traveled to Escanaba Senior High School for the district finals
ESCANABA -- Young boys and girls from all across the U.P. competed in the Elks Hoop Shoot Saturday. Winners of the local hoop shoots traveled to Escanaba Senior High School for the district finals. Three age groups for both boys and girls competed against each other. This was the 40th annual Elks Hoop Shoot.
The Elks is a charitable organization. The hoop shoot is only one of many they host in an effort to promote community outreach. There were 52 registered participants.
"The first place participants advance to the regional competition in Grand Rapids on Feb. 25 of this year," said John Berres, a leading knight.
After the state competition, winners will compete at the national level.
