ESCANABA -- The sixth annual Escanaba Jig It ice fishing tournament was held Saturday. More than 300 people registered for the tournament. The "Kids Koop" had a few dozen young competitors. This year's tournament was held at a new, bigger location, the Escanaba Harbor.

The harbor offers the possibility of adding more activities to the tournament in the future. Registration was $30. All proceeds go to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bay Area.

The funds will be used for the various mentoring programs offered by Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

"Our day today is going very well," said Tanya Schuster, executive director. "Our site prep went well. Our biggest thing is we need to catch fish, because that's how prizes are given out."

Prizes are awarded for the heaviest fish caught. The top prize is $3,000.
