ESCANABA -- There was a six hour standoff with police in Escanaba on Thursday night, and now the 40-year-old Delta County resident who surrendered without incident is behind bars.

Michael Phelan was arraigned Friday morning in Delta County District Court on an unrelated charge.  That charge is a bond violation from an outstanding case for a domestic violence.

Friday night's situation began at 5:31 p.m. when police received a call of a single gunshot with screaming heard in the background.  It was a residence in the 1200 block of South 30th Street.

Phelan's girlfriend, Jamie Zyats, was questioned by detectives at the Public Safety Department.  According to officials, she was not cooperative during questioning.

No one was shot and police are still investigating the case.  Phelan's bond was revoked.  He remains lodged in the Delta County Jail.

No hearing has been scheduled.
