HOUGHTON -- A Hancock woman received probation after pleading to a reduced charge in a stabbing incident.

Melanie Ann Phillips, 27, was originally charged with felonious assault and assault with a deadly weapon.

The charges date back to earlier in January when she stabbed her live-in boyfriend, 34-year-old Clint Salmi. He was treated at Portage Health. His wounds were not serious.

This week, the charge against Phillips was reduced to aggravated domestic violence, which is a misdemeanor.

She plead guilty in Houghton County District Court to the reduced charge and was sentenced to 3 to 24 months probation. She will also need to complete court ordered programs and pay $565 in fines.
