MARQUETTE -- The 25th annual Special Olympics U.P. Winter Games got underway Friday.

At Marquette Mountain, Special Olympic athletes hit the slopes in the alpine skiing and snowboarding events.

"They were at Marquette Mountain. Everyone has done a wonderful job, the sun came out, and the snow was wonderful," said Marie Martin, a ski coach.

After the events, there was a traditional torch-light parade down the ski hill. The events continue through the weekend and conclude on Sunday night.
