The cargo jet has been sitting at Sawyer since 2009
SAWYER -- The Russian cargo plane, sitting at Sawyer International Airport for the past two-and-a-half years, could finally be leaving.
A Circuit Court hearing in Marquette Wednesday ended with the company, Headlands Limited, being awarded possession of the plane. The company will now be able to do the necessary repairs to make the jet airworthy.
There's no word on how much it would cost. Repairs could be done within three months.
The plane landed at Sawyer in July 2009 to refuel on a flight to Pakistan. Once on the ground, the five crew members were arrested for expired visas, and a Texas lawyer claimed the plane had been stolen.
The issue has been tied up in court ever since.
