IRON MOUNTAIN -- Wolves are set to be taken off the endangered species list on January 27.

The change will affect Upper Michigan.

Presently, you can only harm a wolf if it poses an imminent threat to human life.  But on the 27th, you'll be allowed to kill a wolf if it presents a threat to your livestock or dog.

"Currently they are listed as a non-game protected species, and that's really out of the DNR territory, so it's not a DNR decision whether we would have some type of a recreational harvest on these animals," said DNR Wildlife Biologist, Brian Roelle.

Roelle estimates there are 7 to 800 wolves in the U.P.
