Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital's project is costing more than $24 million

MANISTIQUE -- The new Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital is making great progress. The new building will eventually replace the current hospital. It will be a one story building with more than 61,000 square feet. The total project is costing more than $24 million.

The building has been designed to not disturb any of the surrounding wetlands or natural beauty. The Gilbane building company has been leading the construction. With the recent mild and dry weather, construction has been going very smoothly.

"We are ahead of schedule, and with the footing that is completed and with the warmer weather now, the work that is going on now is not affected by the weather," said CEO George Montgomery.

The expected completion date is April 2013. For more information and to see the progress of the hospital via a webcam, click here.
