IRONWOOD -- Recent snowfall is a welcome sight for many and just in time for the third annual SISU Ski Fest.

Active Backwoods Retreat in Ironwood began the SISU Ski Fest two years ago. The main event of the ski fest is the 42k ski marathon. It begins at ABR and eventually loops to downtown Ironwood.

First place is awarded a $500 prize. There are several other races as well, including the 7k Taste and Tour, where local vendors offer food to passing skiers.

After two successful marathons, ABR is looking forward to number three.

"So our numbers are looking excellent right now," said Race Director Geneva Smiles Garvan.  "We've had great enthusiasm from the businesses in the community, getting ready for the Taste N Tour as well, and everybody is geared up.  They're decorating their windows downtown, and it's gonna be a lot of fun."

Active Backwoods Retreat expects more than 600 total skiers over the course of the weekend.

For more information on the schedule, check out the SISU Ski Fest website.
