MARQUETTE -- WE Energies may have found a way to keep their Presque Isle Power Plant open.

They signed a letter of intent with Wolverine Power to evaluate the formation of a joint venture to invest in environmental improvements at the plant.

Last October, WE Energies warned the power plant was in danger of shutting down by 2017 because it would be too costly to bring the plant into compliance with EPA standards.

Last week a federal court put the controversial EPA air quality regulations on hold.

Both Governor Rick Snyder and Congressman Dan Benishek released statements in support of keeping the plant open.
