The church originated in 1887 as the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church

NEGAUNEE -- A church in Negaunee celebrates more than a century of being in service. This year marks the 125th anniversary of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

The church originated in 1887 as the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church. Immanuel had entirely Finnish-speaking services until 1945 when they began to use primarily English.

The anniversary marks more than just a celebration of history.

"And so we are ones that are about not only celebrating 125 years of what has been, but also the ministry ahead, including something we're very excited about, and that is Love, Inc., love in the name of Christ," said Pastor Steve Solberg.

Love, Inc. brings various churches together in an effort to help those suffering from financial troubles. For more information, click here.
