This week's light snowstorm has improved snowmobile tourism in Luce County, but numbers are still well below average
LUCE CO. -- This week's light snowstorm has improved snowmobile tourism in Luce County, but numbers are still well below average.
Comfort Inn in Newberry said this time of year, they're usually completely booked but are only about half full this weekend. They are getting dozens of calls from anxious snowmobilers, asking if the snow has come yet. This isn't the first year tourists have had to wait for the snow, and that's keeping some business owners optimistic about the rest of the season.
"We're already behind, but if we got some good snow, we'd be right back up again," said Comfort Inn General Manager Tim Jendron.
Employees said most of their visitors this weekend are from the Lower Peninsula, but they are expecting guests from across the country later next month.
