KINGSFORD -- The City of Kingsford harvested 107 deer this season. This was the first year after many seasons that the city deemed a bow hunting deer harvest to be necessary.
Problems arose in residential neighborhoods where deer would get into the gardens, and there were also a number of auto incidents related to deer on the roads.
"It has got back to the same condition that we've had the last couple of years," said Kingsford City Manager Tony Eddlebeck. "So we looked for a different way of being able to eliminate some of the deer in town and a more affordable way of doing that."
There were about 20 local hunters who participated in the harvest. It didn't cost the city anything; they signed on to do it for free.
The city reported that 103 of the deer harvested were antlerless.
