MANISTIQUE -- The Manistique Public Safety Department has reopened Quarry Lake for ice fishing and other activities now that the ice has reached eight inches thick.

Officers closed Quarry Lake on December 13, 2011 due to reports of people on the ice and dangerous ice conditions.  Problems increased when children started playing on the ice and carrying rocks out onto the ice.

Authorities warn that rocks on the ice might have melted into the ice and could cause damage to fishermen's augers and for ice skaters to check the ice before using it.

As a reminder, the lake is off limits to snowmobile and ORV use.  Manistique Public Safety says that the public uses the lake at their own risk and are asking people to report any dangerous situations or violations.
