MARQUETTE -- Gas prices in the U.P. jumped sharply Tuesday for some areas.

Prices at the Holiday Gas Station in Marquette increased more than 15 cents on Tuesday morning.

Ironically this comes after the Marquette area had the lowest prices reported in the state according to AAA Michigan.  In previous weeks, prices were steady around $3.33, the highest in the state.

With Iran threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz waterway, prices are expected to rise even higher.

In the Marquette area, you can now expect to pay $3.45 for a gallon of gas.  That's up 25 cents from last year at this time.
