Born at 12:08 p.m., Kirsten Claire Martz was MGH's New Year's baby
MARQUETTE -- Four days late and 29 hours of labor later, MGH's New Year's baby was born at 12:08 in the afternoon Sunday.
Kirsten Claire Martz was expected on the 28th, but her mom, Kerbi Eimerman, "had a feeling" that her baby was going to wait just a little bit longer before she made her way into the world.
"I had a hunch that she would be a New Year's baby just because she's been stubborn throughout the whole thing...and she likes attention," said Eimerman.
Being the New Year's baby has its perks, too. The Marquette Women and Children's Center gave Kirsten and Kerbi a basket full of baby goodies that includes toys, diapers, and picture frames.
Nurse Jean Brown said that she can't even begin to count how many New Year's babies she has helped deliver over the years.
"Every delivery that I've been to has been special and very different in its own unique way. And we're just very happy when we end up with a healthy little baby and happy parents. And that's what we had yesterday," said Brown.
There were no other New Year's babies born at MGH on New Year's Day, however, Kirsten Martz was not the first New Year's baby in the U.P. Portage Health Hospital in Hancock welcomed Nolan Ryan Holombo as the first U.P. baby for 2012.
