LAURIUM -- Neil's Cab in Hancock and Laurium will be offering free rides on New Year's Eve.

The taxi cab company says without the help and donations from the local businesses in the area, offering free rides to residents would not be possible.

Neil's Cab covers Houghton and Keweenaw County and they want to do their part to keep the roads safe.

"To me there's nothing worse than starting off the new year on a bad note," said Jeff Perreault, Laurium Office Manager.  "Whether it's somebody drinking and driving or somebody hurts somebody else in an auto accident because of drinking, this way everyone should make it home safely."

The Hancock office has been offering free rides for New Year's Eve since the 1970s.  The taxi service says they will only be offering free rides home and the service will end at 4 a.m. Sunday morning.

Patrols all throughout the Keweenaw will be out to crack down on drunk drivers and they say this is a great way to avoid any incidents.
