ESCANABA -- The Salvation Army in Escanaba has exceeded their goal of raising $150,000. They were able to raise $161,000; $84,000 came in through their Red Kettle campaign.

The money is used for Christmas assistance for Delta County families, and the leftover money helps with the Salvation Army's homeless programs, utility assistance, and the annual food pantry budget.

"Well, early on in the season, things were really very, very slow. Kettle donations were slow as well as donations through the mail, but during the last ten days, those all picked up," said Salvation Army Major Ralph Hansen.

The Salvation Army also distributed toys this season to 720 children.
