MARQUETTE -- An unnamed aviation company that was expected to create nearly 150 jobs at K.I. Sawyer over five years has decided to postpone development.

The announcement came days before a scheduled Michigan Economic Development Corporation meeting in Lansing last week to consider a tax abatement extension request. The Marquette County and Forsyth Township boards previously approved a seven-year Renaissance Zone Extension that would have given the company a tax break on the available property at K.I. Sawyer.

Sawyer Operations Manager Scott Erbisch would not elaborate on the reasoning behind the postponement.

"That's really up to the company," said Erbisch. "It's unfortunate."
