IRON MOUNTAIN -- The holiday season is here and that means more drivers on the road.  People may be rushing to see family and might not have their full attention on the road, so be extra careful, especially in the snow.

The Iron Mountain Police Department will have extra officers on the roads on New Year's Eve to help ensure safety.

Sergeant Irwin of the Iron Mountain Police Department reports that over the past few New Year's, they've had minimal incidents on New Year's Eve, and they'd like another good year.

"Plan ahead, maybe make extra time for themselves traveling from point A to point B," said Irwin.  "Maybe keep an eye on the weather.  And obviously wear your safety belts."

There will be much more traffic than usual.  Cell phones and snow can only complicate driving conditions with heavy traffic, so the Iron Mountain Police Department wants you to be sure to drive defensively.
