POWERS -- The Sons of the American Legion in Powers are working with Fazer Foods to help supply local food pantries. Instead of filling up a bag with random items, the Sons of the American Legion have come up with a more efficient plan.

Customers who visit Fazers can buy donation cards in the store and they'll be rung up with the rest of their order at the checkout. Then the food shelter in Hermansville is called and asked what they need specifically to fill their shelves. This way the pantry will have exactly what it needs.

"It's really tough times right now, but people coming out like this, it's just overwhelming. It makes you feel a lot of joy inside," said Fazer Foods owner, Clarence Fazer.

The Sons of the American Legion are running this program through January 1 and have already raised over $2,000.
