GARDEN TOWNSHIP -- Officials from Schoolcraft and Delta counties and Garden Township took a tour of the first wind turbine that's being built on the Garden Peninsula wind farm.
The tower, cell, and rotors are on. It's just about complete and is one of 14 turbines that will harness energy in the moving air and convert it into electricity.
Rick Wilson, Vice President of Operations for Heritage Sustainable Energy, said he hopes to see the turbine spinning between Christmas and New Year's.
"We're really glad to be here. We're a Michigan-based company. The company's with Michigan money and Michigan investors, and we really are excited to be here in the Upper Peninsula to be part of this community," said Wilson.
Heritage leased the land for the wind farm from landowners in the Garden Peninsula.
Officials hope to have all turbines finished by August 2012.
