MARQUETTE -- Many of our Facebook viewers wanted to know more about financial assistance. For instance, how do you get help paying off some utility bills?
AMCAB in Marquette offers a variety of services from childhood Head Start programs, to Meals on Wheels, to utility help.
The one-time emergency heating assistance program offers help with deliverable fuel, wood, coal, propane or fuel oil. It does not include natural gas.
Qualification is partly based on income and family size.
"These are very trying economic times, and people are struggling with their heating bills and we're in December; we suspect by the time we get to February and March, these heating bills will have piled up and become insurmountable for many people," said Earl Hawn, Executive Director of AMCAB.
Another option they offer is home weatherization, which can decrease the amount of energy usage.
