MARQUETTE -- Those who want to pay their respects to Bishop Mark Schmitt of the Diocese of Marquette can do so at Saint Peter Cathedral.

The Bishop's body was received by Bishop Alexander Sample, Bishop Garland and the clergy at 10 a.m. on Monday morning.  He will lie in state until 9 p.m. on Monday evening.

A rosary was prayed at 3 p.m. and the vigil prayer service will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the cathedral.

It has been nearly 35 years since the last funeral mass was held for a bishop, which was Bishop Thomas Noa in 1977.
