MARQUETTE -- It takes a whole community to put it together, and the annual Holiday Junior Hockey Tournament is always a success.
Thanks to the Marquette Junior Hockey and the Iron Range Hockey Associations, 26 teams were able to hit the puck this weekend at the Lakeview Arena in Marquette. Teams from around the U.P. and Northern Wisconsin competed in three divisions. Hundreds of local businesses help make the event possible each year by providing financial support.
Each year the event boosts the economy in the area, as family and friends visit Marquette for the tournaments.
"The community help is tremendous between putting ads in our program, donating for hospitality room, goody bags for the kids, it's a big outpouring and it takes everybody to do it," Dean McAuliffe, director of the Marquette Junior Hockey Association, said.
Tournaments were held at the Lakeview Ice Arena, Negaunee Ice Arena and the Berry Events Center.
